Kellie Pickler has reportedly reached a confidential settlement in a battle with her late husband’s parents. The settlement arrives more than three years after Kyle Jacobs’ death.

Pickler, 40, and Jacobs’ parents, Reed and Sharon Jacobs, “have fully resolved all claims, disputes, and requests for relief by and between them,” according to court documents obtained by TMZ, PEOPLE and others news outlets on Wednesday (November 4). TMZ notes that during the three-year battle, Reed and Sharon Jacobs claimed Pickler would not return some of their late son’s possessions to them, including his phone, a watch, musical equipment, a collection of guns, and more. In a filing, they alleged the former American Idol contestant was “painting herself as the tragic victim.” Pickler, however, denied wrongdoing. Now, She and the Jacobs are “satisfied with the distribution of asset,” according to PEOPLE’s report of the court filings.

Metro Nashville Police Department officials confirmed that Jacobs died by a self-inflicted gunshot wound on February 17, 2023. He was 49. Pickler was asleep at the time of the incident. When she woke up, she looked for her husband and called 911 with a personal assistant when she was unable to open the bedroom door. Pickler and Jacobs — whose songwriting career included music with Tim McGraw, Kelly Clarkson, Darius Rucker, Garth Brooks and more — got married in 2011. Jacobs was a Minnesota-born songwriter, vocalist and musician.

“One of the most beautiful lessons my husband taught me was in a moment of a crisis, if you don’t know what to do, ‘do nothing, just be still.’ I have chosen to heed his advice,” Pickler said in a statement to PEOPLE months after losing her husband. “Thank you to my family, friends, and supporters, for the countless letters, calls, and messages that you have sent my way. It has truly touched my soul and it’s helping me get through the darkest time in my life. As many of you have told me, you are all in my prayers. I am planning an intimate memorial for my husband, which will happen later this fall, that is what Kyle would have wanted.”

Pickler listed the home she shared with Jacobs in late 2023. In 2024, she honored him on the historic Ryman Auditorium stage in Nashville, Tennessee, where she performed during the Walkin’ After Midnight: The Music of Patsy Cline show. She said at the time, “I am incredibly honored to be a part of honoring Ms. Patsy Cline. She is a huge reason why I fell in love with music, and my husband and I actually wrote this song together, gosh, over a decade ago. The last time I was here in the Ryman Auditorium was with him on a date night. And I know he is here with us tonight.”
