Disney JUST Shared Its Mickey Mouse Beignet Recipe

The last time I went to the theme park was 17 years ago so I have never tried these but now I may have to try and make these at home!

If you’re looking for a print-at-home version of the recipe, you can find one on the Disney blog.

This recipe makes 10 large Mickey Mouse-shaped beignets or 24 small beignets.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 teaspoon dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water (105°)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 egg
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar

Instructions

Step 1: Make the dough

Sprinkle the yeast over warm water in a small bowl, stirring to dissolve. Let stand for 5 minutes. (This process is called proofing.)

Combine the sugar, shortening, salt, heavy cream, egg, flour and boiling water in a large bowl. Then, stir in yeast mixture. With the dough hook attachment of your stand mixer, mix the dough on medium speed just until combined and smooth. Let dough rest for 30 minutes.

Step 2: Mold your Mickeys

Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness and cut individual beignets with a Mickey Mouse-shaped cutter like this. (You can also cut the dough into 2-1/2 to 3-inch squares.) Cover with a towel and let dough rise until doubled in size, about 1 to 1-1/2 hours.

Use this time to see how Disney fans are recreating park rides at home!

Step 3: Time to fry

To keep the kitchen safe, take a look at our guide on how to deep fry at home.

Then, heat 3 inches of vegetable oil to 350° F in a deep, heavy pot over medium-high heat. Fry beignets until golden brown, about 2 to 3 minutes on each side. Remove with tongs and place on paper towels to drain.

Dust warm beignets with powdered sugar and serve ASAP!
