Gender reveal parties have become a big trend in recent years, but recently, the mom who started it all expressed some regrets. Jenna Karvunidis is a California mom who’s credited for throwing the first gender reveal party 11 years ago, but she took to Facebook to share her thoughts on them and she sees things a little differently these days.
The post explains that she has mixed feelings about her “random contribution to the culture” and now sees that assigning a gender to a baby before they’re even born is “rather pointless.”
"At the time because we didn't live in 2019 and didn't know what we know now," she continues, "that assigning focus on gender at birth leaves out so much of their potential and talents that have nothing to do with what's between their legs."
Part of her shift in thought comes from her child, who’s now a soon-to-be-tween who expresses herself in nonbinary ways."PLOT TWIST," writes Karvunidis, "the world's first gender-reveal party baby is a girl who wears suits!"
The mom admits she’s learning as she goes with gender awareness, just like the rest of us.
