Hack For Getting Sunscreen On A Squirmy Kid

Most parents struggle putting sunscreen on their kids, especially wriggly toddlers so one mom has figured out a way to make putting it on a squirmy little one a little easier and she’s sharing it to help us all.

She calls her hack the “dot method” and here’s what you do:

  • Open the sunscreen bottle and use your index finger to apply dots all over the child’s body and face.
  • Start with one on the nose, two on each cheek, and three across the forehead.
  • Dot up and down their arms and legs, front and back, for a total of about 10 dots on each leg and five on each arm.
  • Then rub those dots in, except on the face.
  • For the face, lightly drum your finger pads all around their face to spread the sunscreen in between the dots.

The dot method works because it’s quick and you can be confident you’ve got them covered. Being speedy makes the whole process easier because by the time the kid gets really antsy, you’ve already finished. You can also get them in on the fun by letting them rub some dots in and if they run off during the SPF application - which is going to happen some time - you can stop and start the process at any point.
