TODAY IS:
- No Socks Day
- Sunday is Mother’ Day
There’s no doubt that this will not be your typical Mother’s Day. According to a new survey of moms, 80% say Mother’s Day will be different this year, with 41% saying it will be worse. But not all moms think their day will be bad. 13% say it will be better than usual, and 33% of moms surveyed said they are actually secretly happy that they will have a more intimate day at home with their immediate families – instead of having a big extended celebration with their moms, mothers-in-law and grandmothers. "One of the many silver linings of this quarantine is that we can get a free pass to get out of things we feel like weshoulddo, but would rather not," parenting expert Amy McCready toldToday.
And what do moms want the most this year? It’s true most every year, but especially true this Mother’s Day: What moms want most is some time to themselves. Alone time is followed closely by a handmade gift or card from the kids as the most wanted gifts in the moms' survey.
Are you your mom’s favorite? Mom may love all her children equally, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have a favorite. According to an over 20-year study from Purdue University, which surveyed over 500 mothers and 700 of their adult children, the favorite child in almost every family shared these similar traits: She’s a girl, she shares the same religious, political, and general values as mom, and she’s the last born. Yep, it's just as we all suspected -- the baby girl of the family is the favorite! (BHG)
Things keeping you up at night? A new survey found that there’s been a 40% increase in the amount of TV being watched between the hours of 11 p.m and 2 a.m.
Talk about a weight loss support system …An entire town in New York is going on a diet. The town of Huntington, located in Suffolk County, Long Island, has started a voluntary diet and exercise program for the entire community – which has about 200,000 residents. They are doing it in an effort to make people healthier, especially in light of COVID-19, which seems to affect those with obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure more severely. (Insider)
A man and his dog …When it comes to puppy love, Millennial men pamper their pooches more than Millennial women dog owners. A new survey by Volvo USA and Harris found that 39% of male Millennial pet owners buy organic pet food, compared to 29% of female Millennial pet owners and 27% of all pet owners.
The survey found that men are also more likely to take their pups to daycare and throw birthday parties for them. 30% of the men surveyed said they plan to have a birthday party for their furry friend compared to 17% of women.
Millennial women beat out Millennial men in one pet pampering category: Social media. Women are more than twice as likely as men to have a social media account dedicated to their pet. (People)
