Since beginning of American History, no one is more synonymous with the face of civil rights than Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. His speeches, his quotes, so powerful, so moving.  And to be clear, he didn't just stand for the rights of those being segregated, he also stood for every American who wasn't treated equally.  Black, White, Asian, Latino, it didn't matter, if you're an American, you have that right to be treated as an equal. I alway felt one of his inspirations for this had to be the Declaration of Independence- In the second paragraph it states: "“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.”

At the age of thirty-five, Martin Luther King, Jr., was the youngest man to have received the Nobel Peace Prize. When notified of his selection, he announced that he would turn over the prize money of $54,123 to the furtherance of the civil rights movement.On the evening of April 4, 1968, while standing on the balcony of his motel room in Memphis, Tennessee, where he was to lead a protest march in sympathy with striking garbage workers of that city, he was assassinated.
