Thursday Randoms: How Often We eat w/ Our Phone & More

Can’t put the phone down during meals? You’re not alone. A study by Nutrisystem found that nearly 30 percent of Americans admit their phone is with them at every meal and 35 percent of those ages to 18 to 25 say they are never without their phones when eating. 50 percent of respondents said they had their phones on the table for most meals. Just 17 percent said they made meals phone-free zones. And it’s not just phones distracting us during mealtime. 72 percent say they typically watch TV while eating. (NY Post

Cool(er) Runnings … It's been 25 years since the movie Cool Runnings -- which was about the Jamaican bobsled team -- was in theaters. Well, it might be time for a sequel -- because the Jamaican WOMEN'S bobsleds team is now training to compete in their first ever winter games. The team has officially qualified and will be heading to South Korea for the Olympics next month. (The Sun)

And you thought swiping was judgy … There's now a new app that lets you rate and review your dates. The Do I Date app is sort of like Yelp for singles. If your date acted appropriately and you had fun, you offer high marks and positive comments. If you were bored or offended, that person gets a low grade. Because dating profiles can't always be trusted, this thing is designed to get to the truth and -- hopefully -- help you waste less time with duds that you might avoid. (Evening Standard)

Botox … for camels … So, 12 camels were disqualified from a camel beauty pageant in Saudi Arabia after it was discovered that the camels had allegedly gotten Botox in their lips, noses, and jaws. According to NPR, a local veterinarian was caught injecting the camels with Botox and surgically reducing their ears "to make them appear more delicate." In other news … there’s such a thing as a camel beauty pageant?  Apparently there's definitely motivation to beautify the camels … there's $31.8 million in prizes for the pageant.

Brace yourself for a baby boom ... Believe it or not, women are having more babies. Statistics from the government show that 86 percent of women between the ages of 40 and 44 were mothers in 2016 -- up from 80 percent in 2006. This increase reverses a 40-year trend where fewer women in that age group were having babies. The number crunchers found that not only are women more likely to be mothers than in the past, they are also having more kids. (MarketWatch)
