There is a battle happening at Eddie's house.
He's had his mower for 10 years now, but the mower has started shaking constantly and even burning on the handle when his kids are mowing. The kids have started to take breaks while mowing every 5 minutes because it's too hot. Eddie's wife wants to buy them a new mower, but Eddie thinks this janky mower is giving them character. He wants them to learn hardships now as kids, so later in life they can enjoy all the good things.
Bobby doesn't agree with Eddie's thought process on this particular topic. He told Eddie the suffering is happening in them having to mow the yard and they're learning responsibility in that. Amy agreed because they're mowing the yard, especially in the summer days. That's when Bobby asked Eddie if he would send his kids to school without the proper equipment and Eddie said he would, he thinks just sending them with a calculator would be a good experience for them.
Eddie believes they will look back at this moment in their lives when they're older and remember that their dad made them use a bad lawn mower and it made them tougher. He also admitted he doesn't want to spend the money because it will be a couple hundred for a new one. Bobby almost offered to buy them a new one, but Amy stopped because this is their dad's responsibility.
