Megan Moroney called out a ā€œheartbreakerā€ in the lyrics of an unreleased song that she shared on TikTok on Monday (June 2).

Moroney set the scene of an emotional split around November 2019 that left her ā€œbarely alive.ā€ Though she admitted it sounds ā€œdramatic,ā€ the reigning Country Music Association New Artist of the Year said she ā€œsurvived,ā€ and received a call from her ex several months later:

ā€œLet me set you the scene/ November circa 2019/ Put a hole in my heart, watched it bleed/ You said that we were better off as strangers/ I was barely alive/ Out of 6 feet deep I was 5/ Pretty sure they called a hearse outside/ OK that’s dramatic, but I survived/ Then I survived…
ā€œThe ā€˜hey Meg, I think I want you back’/ ā€˜I’m a couple drinks in thinking it’s my bad that I let you walk away and let you go’/ It’s a tale as old as time I guess/ When you couldn’t care more I couldn’t care less/ You’re a little too late to the party, heartbreaker/ What doesn’t kill you calls you 6 months laterā€

Moroney hasn’t announced the anthem’s release date as of publication time.

The Emo Cowgirl’s latest song to release is ā€œYou Had Yo Be There,ā€ a collaboration with Kenny Chesney that she wrote as a Christmas gift to him. The lyrics mark a full circle moment for Moroney, who sat in section 312 when she attended Chesney’s concert in May 2018 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Seven years later, she had a ā€œdifferent point of viewā€ when she opened for the country megastar on his headlining stadium tour.

Moroney’s latest studio album is Am I Okay?, her highly-anticipated sophomore record that arrived last summer. she expanded it a few months later with three additional tracks on the deluxe edition, Am I Okay? (I’ll Be Fine). It was a powerful follow-up to Moroney’s breakout debut, Lucky, and its deluxe edition in 2023. See the singer-songwriter’s latest teaser here:
