IKEA is set to open it's doors on June 7. Columbus Police and surrounding jurisdictions have put together a plan to combat expected traffic congestion.
Traffic officials expect 51,000 cars to drive the area of IKEA Way and Lyra Drive once the store opens with 10,000 to 15,000 of those cars being customers in route to the Swedish furniture store.
IKEA has 1,200 paved parking places. The store will use the nearby land where the Germain Amphitheater once existed as overflow to add another 800 spots.
Once those are full, officers will re-direct all cars counterclockwise along IKEA Way toward Lyra Drive to create a constant flow of traffic until more parking becomes available.
