" If you are a single mom like Whitney Kittrell, sometimes promising yourself you will do whatever you can to give your kids a normal life means dressing up like a dad.
One day her kindergarten son came home with a note stating his class was having “dads and doughnuts” day at Arrowhead Elementary School.
“My heart kinda’ sank,” Kittrell said of seeing the note.
After taking a moment to think, she sat her son down and asked if he wanted to ask his grandpa to go.
The child smiled and said, “No. I want you to go. You’re my mom and dad.'"
