It will be so cold outside that you shouldn’t talk.
That’s the warning from the National Weather Service as potentially record-breaking cold slams Chicago and the Midwest.
In addition to the usual dress in layers and cover your mouth warnings, the NWS in Des Moines said, “to protect your lungs from severely cold air, avoid taking deep breaths; minimize talking.” It's so cold that schools announced they would close early yesterday for today and possibly tomorrow, but there's more-It's so cold that some places won't have mail delivery or BEER and the bars would have to close as well-YIKES! When the bars close that's serious!
Nearly 100-million Americans are dealing with record-cold temperatures today which have already been blamed for at least five deaths across the Midwest.
Temperatures have been below zero in the region all week and are expected to get even colder today in places like Minneapolis and Chicago where the high isn't even supposed to get above minus-13. Strong winds will also make it feel like 50-below. Let's put it this way, it's warmer on Mars and Antarctica than some places in the Midwest right now and that's just WRONG!
Deaths associated with the cold or icy roads have been reported in Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa and Nebraska. Some victims reportedly froze to death and others were killed in car crashes. ( NBC News )
So how cold are YOU?
