The coronavirus has closed borders around the world, but one couple in Europe isn’t letting it stop them from seeing each other regularly.
Inga, 85, and Karsten, 89 met last year and have spent every day together since. But since she lives in Denmark and he lives 20 minutes away in Germany, they’re unable to cross the borders and have come up with the next best thing.
Every afternoon Inga brings a chair to the barricade that separates the countries and sits on the Danish side and Karsten brings a chair to sit on the German side. The couple gets to visit and share coffee and cookies. It’s not ideal, but they’re determined to spend time together, so they’re making the best of it.
One of the biggest downsides? They’re not allowed to hug or kiss each other.
