Every morning on my way to work I drive by Scioto Grove Metro Park where they found Reagan Tokes' body. For some reason, I remember driving by the morning she was first discovered. My morning drive is usually filled with prayer, pondering life and decisions I've made to get to where I am in this world. Now, my drive is consumed with what happened to Reagan and how her life was cut short by a guy who doesn't deserve to be named. I think about her family and the pain they must feel. And, now that the trial has started, it feels like the whole experience is starting over again.
Right to a fair trial? I'm not sure it makes sense in this case. What about Reagan's right to live her life and pursue her dreams? What about her family's right to bare witness to her dreams? Now, I'm stuck hearing this guy's name on the news every day as I watch this "fair trial" take place!
I hope and pray for peace for the Tokes family. May Reagan's memory serve as a reminder of how fragile life can be. Daughters, understand that parents spend a great deal of time worrying about you. We would do anything to keep you safe. We would give our lives to protect you. Don't live in fear - but don't be niave! Be proactive in protecting yourself.
