Garth Brooks Explains Why He Would Never Run For President

Garth Brooks does not envision a future for himself in the Oval Office.

In a recent interview with Billboard, the country superstar explained how his views are too widespread across the political spectrum and because of that, most people wouldn't know which way to go with him.

"Trust me, no one would know which way to go with me because I am so both," he shared. "I really am 'Let’s love one another, but don't forget we’re the defender of freedom all around the world, so let’s beef up.'"

Brooks supports his point by referencing two of his songs that are on opposite ends of the political spectrum. "People don't think you can do both. And that's right down my alley. That's why you can have 'We Shall Be Free' and 'American Honky Tonk Bar Association' at the same concert. Let’s love one another and let’s pull our own weight."

The superstar went on to explain how although he has a deep sense of patriotism, he doesn't let it overshadow his music. He compares it to the way he handles his faith publicly.

"I'll do my patriotism pretty much the way I'll do my belief in God," he says. "People say, 'Are you ever gonna make a gospel record?' and I say, 'I don't feel worthy of getting to do one.' So my songs like that are 'Unanswered Prayers' and 'The River.' Same way with patriotism."

"I'm not going to shove it down your throat, but I don't think you have to be around me long to realize that I feel lucky to to live where I live," he adds.

Last Wednesday (October 14), Brooks was honored with the Icon Award at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards. The country star received the award from previous winner Cher, who listed Brooks' numerous accomplishments, calling him a "true music legend and friend."
