Trisha Yearwood Honors The Fallen During 2020 ACM Awards In Memoriam

Fallen country titans were honored during the 2020 ACM Awards on Wednesday night (September 16) by the one and only Trisha Yearwood's In Memoriam performance.

Towards the end of the broadcast, which took place in Nashville, Yearwood took the stage for a special performance of her 2019 track, "I'll Carry You Home," during the Keith Urban-hosted ceremony. As she made her way through the Every Girl ballad, alongside a piano man and three backup singers, the grace of the number spread across the venue as it lit up like a starry sky and the images of the late, great members of the community flashed onto the screen. Among those featured included Kenny Rogers, John Prine, Jimmy Capps, Biff Adam and more. "I'll carry you home, I'll carry you home/ So rest your heart easy, I'll carry you home," she belted during the piano ballad.

Previously, Yearwood has explained that the ballad has significance in relation to her connection with husband, Garth Brooks, while simultaneously serving as a track that stands for her relationship with God.

"My husband and I talk a lot about being each other's person. And we're both pretty strong, independent people, and I know he can do everything on his own but it's my honor to somehow help him if I can. And the same for him," she explained. "Also I am a firm believer that everything happens the way it’s supposed to, and I honestly every morning and get up in my day and I turn everything over to God. I couldn’t go through my day if I didn’t believe someone else had me. Somebody else had a better plan than me. That song for me is the, 'I got you.'"
