Going through a dry spell or dealing with a low sex drive? You’re not alone. Researchers have found that certain foods can not only help put is in the mood for sex, they can even help us enjoy it more in the heat of the moment.

These are some nutrient-dense foods nutritionists recommend we eat regularly to help put us in the mood:

  • Pink fruits and veggies- Nutrients found in watermelon and beets can have a big impact on arousal. They contain lycopene, beta-carotene and citrulline, which have a “Viagra-like effect” on the blood vessels, both above and below the belt.
  • Dark green vegetables- The iron in kale, spinach, broccoli and such helps keep our neurotransmitters happy and when our iron levels get low, we feel more tired, which isn’t great for the old sex life.
  • Seafood- Fish, seaweed and shellfish contain iodine, a nutrient that’s important for thyroid function. When the thyroid isn’t producing enough hormones, it can lead to extreme fatigue, brain fog and decreased sexual function.
  • Onions and garlic- They might not leave your breath kiss-ready, but the allicin in these foods helps with blood flow to the pelvic area, which helps you feel turned on and boosts the chance for orgasm in both men and women.
  • Pumpkin seeds- They’re rich in zinc, a mineral that may increase testosterone and give your libido a pick-me-up.
