A dad whose rule has always been “You break it, you bought it” is sticking to his guns and it’s costing his teenage daughter big time.
In a Reddit post, he explains that the 16-year-old ruined her aunt’s homemade $12-thousand wedding dress and dad’s making her wipe out her savings to cover the cost. The dress was hand-sewn for the bride-to-be by her now-deceased grandmother, who spent 500 hours creating it with expensive fabrics before she passed away. It was the aunt’s “dream wedding dress.”
It all started when dad took his daughter to his sister’s house and the teen asked to try on the dress. She was told no but when left alone with the dress, she put it on and got stuck.
So she decided to cut herself out of the dress instead of waiting for help and it was “hacked to bits” and destroyed.
The sister was livid and dad was, too. He made his daughter pay his aunt the $12,000 from her college savings and another $3-thousand to her aunt’s wedding fund for “an emotional distress tax.”
The teen was upset, saying it wasn’t her fault but dad reminded her she put that dress on after being told not to and she didn’t wait for help to get out of it.
Here's the worst part... when asked about why, the girl finally admitted that she did it on purpose because she was mad her grandmother wasn’t alive to make her a wedding gown. So if she “couldn’t have a dress from Grandma, no one could.”
Most people agree with dad. What's your take?
