Lynd Fruit Farm Cancels Annual "U-Pick" of Honeycrisp Apples

A local farm has been forced to cancel part of its “Pick Your Own” tradition due to unusual wet and warm weather conditions.

According to Lynd Fruit Farm’s website, the traditional “U-Pick” Honeycrisp apple season scheduled for Sept. 7, 8, and 9, has been canceled due to the combination of an extreme amount of rain and high heat.

“The Honeycrisp apple crop must be picked early and graded by our professional pickers,” the website states. “This very difficult decision was made in order to save what we can of the crop and provide our customers with the best quality apple possible.”

The “U-Pick” for Macintosh apples, scheduled for the same days, has also been canceled for the same reasons.

Customers will still be able to buy a limited supply of Honeycrisp apples in Lynd Fruit Farm market for $25 for a small bag, and $35 for a large bag.

The next scheduled pick-your-own season is for Sept. 14, 15, and 16 and is for Cortland, Pixie Crunch, and September Fuji apples; however the U-Pick for Autumncrisp apples has also been canceled.
