Teen Gets Ultrasound Results On TV, Doctor Knows Something Is Very Wrong

Samantha got pregnant at 19 years old after a one-night stand. She also has juvenile type 1 diabetes, so the pregnancy made things even more complicated and troubling.

In April 2017, Samantha’s mother Krystina turned to Dr. Phil for help, claiming her daughter was not properly managing her disease — and she worried her grandchild would be born with severe disabilities.

Samantha admitted to Dr. Phil she’d stopped smoking months into her pregnancy and would drink one glass of red wine every now and then. But eating the right foods and checking her insulin levels on a regular basis were also paramount to her and her baby’s health.

Dr. Phil wanted an expert mind, so he brought in Dr. Travis Stork of The Doctors to review Samantha’s prenatal ultrasounds during a show taping.

In the video below, Dr. Stork reviews the scans in real time — and he says there’s no way to sugarcoat the heartbreaking results.

The US Department of Health and Human Services says:

“Staying in your target range during pregnancy, which may be different than when you aren’t pregnant, is also important. High blood glucose, also called blood sugar, can harm your baby during the first weeks of pregnancy, even before you know you are pregnant.

“If you have diabetes and are already pregnant, see your doctor as soon as possible to make a plan to manage your diabetes. Working with your health care team and following your diabetes management plan can help you have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.”

This is not about turning Samantha into a villain. Instead, let’s use her story to spread awareness about the frightening risks associated with being pregnant while managing diabetes and other illnesses.
