Dolly Parton continues to extend her acting resume with the new film A Country Christmas Story.
But the role isn't much of a stretch for her. The country legend portrays herself in the film, which tells the story of a bi-racial girl growing up in an Appalachian Mountain community who wants to pursue her dream of becoming a country music star.
The girl's efforts take her to Dollywood, where she takes part in a singing competition Parton is hosting. She also reconnects with her father, played by R&B star Brian McKnight, and discovers her African-American musical heritage.
Desiree Ross, Megyn Price, and Mary Kay Place are also featured in the made-for-TV movie, which will have its premiere on Lifetime Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. Eastern.
